Print Layout: invalid error message?

Print Layout: invalid error message?
Wed, 26 Mar 2008 07:44:59 +000
One thing that contributed to putting me off using the Print Layout
facility for a long time was that while experimenting I was always
getting the message "The current template has changed, do you wish to
save it?" when IMO I had not changed it.

I'm finally using Print Layout (to my benefit), but I'm *still*
getting that same redundant message. Typically I:
1) Open a couple of images
2) Open Print Layout
3) File > Open Template > Choose my 'A4-Land-Folded' template (but it
could be any; all give the same message later.)
4 Drag my two images into the template
5 Print

But when I subsequently close the Print Layout dialog, I get that
message.

Yet I have done nothing to the template itself. It has *not* changed.
I could understand this if I had saved the template using the 'save
with images' option, but I didn't.

Is this simply a minor bug I can ignore?

You changed it by adding 2 images. Just say No

But you can't tell him much.

I think you are mistaken.

You added two images to the template. A template can be saved
naked (so to speak) without images or it can be saved with
images. Since you added images to the template PSP thinks you
might want to save the template containing the images and warns
you that you changed the template. If you opened the dialog
selected a template and closed the dialog without dragging any
images to the template or editing the template you wouldn't
get the prompt.

If you had saved the template with the images then you would
have saved the changed template. At this point there would be
no unsaved changes and so no changed template. You would therefore
not get the message. You seem to have confused the logic of the
situation. In the same way, if you open an image in PSP and
change it some way and then go to close PSP, you will get a
prompt asking what to do with the image. However, if you opened
the image and did nothing with it or if you opened the image,
changed it and then saved it you would not get a message when
you closed PSP.

It's not a bug.

One more thing to bear in mind. When you save a template with
images, I believe the template actually stores a link to the
image (path and file name), not the image itself. So don't go
deleting an image from you hard drive and then expecting it to
be sitting in the template when you go to use the template
later.
