| resizing for pics for use on website |

Ok, I am trying to redo my DH's website and I am cheating using a template.
I am wanting to replace some of the template pictures with our own but my
pics are so huge. Any tips on how to resize my pics in to such a small
size. I know I can change the pixels per inch but is there anything else I
should do?
Thanks!!

Pixels per inch pertains to printing only. It is completely
irrelevant to a web site. Set it to any value you wish or just leave
it alone.
The relevant measure of size for a web site is pixels. Find out from
the template how many pixels wide and high the image will be on the
computer screen. Then use Image > Resize in PSP with Resample Using
checked and set to Smart Size. You might want to sharpen the image
lightly after resizing it, according to taste.
If your picture is not the same shape as the one in the template,
you can crop it in PSP or you can override the template's sample
image to display the new shape.
It is possible to send an image to the client's browser that is
smaller or larger than the web page calls for. The browser will
resize it to fit. However, PSP does a notably better job than
browsers at resizing and the web page will load quicker if the
browser does not need to resize the images.

Changing the pixels per inch won't change anything at all on
your screen. Look at the two attached images. One has a
resolution of 1 pixel per inch and the other has a resolution
of 32767 pixels per inch. Both are the same size. Pixels per
inch only have to do with printing on paper. They don't have
any effect on how things look in a web browser (or a newsreader).

Yes, you should change the number of pixels in the image. That
is how you make the image smaller - you make it have fewer
pixels since images are made of pixels. Do Image > Resize.
Make sure Resample Using is set to Smart Size and that
Maintain Aspect Ratio is checked. Type in the size in pixels
you need or a percentage of the original and press OK. It's
usually a good idea to sharpen the image at this point,
particularly if it is a photo you have made smaller. Adjust >
Sharpen > Unsharp Mask at Radius 1.00, Strength 50, Clipping
5 usually works well for this. Save the image using the File >
Export menu and the Optimizer that corresponds to the format
you have chosen so you can use intelligent settings and preview
what your image will look like when saved. |
