First let me answer your question but I think it is based on
a misapprehension. You cannot save the origin of the text.
Now let's turn to the possible misapprehension. Why do you
need to put your text down several times to explore the effect
of different text settings? Why can't you put it down once and,
while the Text Entry dialog is still open, preview the effect
of different settings on the image? This seems to be a much
more straightforward way of doing things than applying the same
text over and over in the same location. When the Text Entry
dialog is open you can highlight some portion of the text in
it (or select all of the text with Ctrl-A) and then change
the text settings. Only the selected text will be affected by
the modified settings. You can do this over and over as many
times as you like. I'm not clear why you aren't able to do
this.

Another way you can go is to record placing your text string
to a script. Then you just run the script to place the text
whenever you want those recorded words at the recorded location.
After that you can select the text with the Object Selection
tool, right click to bring up the context menu, select the
Edit Text item and change the text properties. I think the
former approach is simpler.

I find that very often when I am creating a text object,
it takes a good many tries to get it just right.

The wording is the same, and the location I want is the same,
but I need to play around with different colour combinations,
stroke width, type face, font size, and so forth.

However, it does get tedious trying to put "origin" of the text
into the same exact location time after time.

There is a checkbox on the text-entry dialog box to remember the text;
is there any way to create a dialog that would remember the location, as well?
