| PSP 9 and Exifer |

I'm totally bemused, not sure what's going on. I work on enhancing a
photo then add under Creator Information "Title", "Artist
Name",
"Copyright" and "Description". I then go to the Exif Info
tab and fill in
the editable fields there. I then click OK and save the image to another
location named "Newname.jpg" then close the image. Now I open Exifer,
click on the image just created, click on the Edit Exif/IPTC button,
select IPTC Data tab, select Source/Description tab, fill in Author,
Copyright, Description and Headline; then go to Keywords and Categories
and add Keywords. Next I go to the Date/Time Location tab and fill in the
location fields. Done this many times before.
After saving I go back to the same image, "Newname.jpg", bring up the
image info and find under Creator Information that the Title, Artist Name
and Copyright fields are now blank. I fill them in again, click OK, Click
on Save and close the image. Going back to Exifer I now find all the IPTC
data I entered has gone. Thats very odd I think so I go back to the image
in PSP and check the Creator Info again and the Title, Artist Name and
Copyright fields are empty again.
OK, I haven't done much image editing for a while, but, I've done the
above procedures hundreds of times before without any problems. Looking
over old photos I see all the fields in Creator Info, Exif Data and IPTC
data are intact. What could be going wrong now?

Below is my reply to you in the usenet group:
It seems to me that PSP does not treat Creator Informatin as IPTC data. If
you enter your IPTC data with Exifer, you will be able to see that date in
other programs that read IPTC, like Photoshop or an exif reader like OPanda
IEXIF. PSP, however, doesn't seem to save the info you create in PSP or
read the info you create and save in IPTC using Exifer, and likely not
created by any other program either.
I would also add that, once you add the IPTC info with Exifer, if you open
the image in PSP and re-save it, then PSP will remove that info again and
it can't be read by any other program. So in Exifer you should always make
a backup of the Exif data if you intend to re-edit and save in PSP so that
you can use Exifer again to re-insert the exif/IPTC data.

Update:
After several experiments it seems that PSP will not save Title, Artist
Name or Copyright in Creator Information. Save Exif information is
checked, I'm saving as a normal jpg and everything else seems to be
working as normal.

Thanks Joe, but, that is not what seems to be happening, the update
message which you replied to explains it. Exif data is unaffected. I
have now noticed that PSP is just not even saving Creator Information
except for Description. If I attempt to enter Title, Creator Name and
Copyright under Creator Information, then click OK and Save I find that
when I reopen the image Title, Creator Name and Copyright are blank. The
very act of closing and then opening the image seems to strip those fields.
Further test I did just now. Entered those fields again in Creator
Information, clicked OK then, instead of using the Save button I used the
Save As button and saved it under a different name as another JPG. All
Creator Information fields are stripped again except for Description.
Something is definitely causing PSP to not save those fields.
To check it out further I've just attempted it with an untouched image
that I had transfered from my camera to PC. Filled in all the Creator
Information fields, OK, Save As to another location, opened the new saved
image and the only field saved in Creator Information is Description.
Exifer was out of the loop and not even launched.

Hold on, I think I can see what's happening. Going through my older
photos I see images saved in pspimage format have all Creator Information
fields intact, same images that are also saved in jpg format show only
Description field in the Creator Information section. Am I right to
assume that only the Description field can be saved in jpg format, but,
all fields can be saved in pspimage format?
I've just uninstalled PSP 9, used zapjasc to remove any incorrect registry
entries and reinstalled so it should be working correctly, yet, I still
get the above so it's the only conclusion I can come to.
