default file type

How can I change the default  for saving a new file from Paint Shop format 
to JPEG?

I keep forgetting to do save as and changing to jpeg. I have done this on 
another computer but can't find the right menu now

Go to File>Preferences>General Program Preferences>Display and Caching.
 
Check the box for Re-use last type in the file save as dialogue.

You would likely be better off, however, using the jpg optimizer when 
saving as jpg so that you can control the amount of compression, etc.
