Instead you could try File > Workspace > Load > Default.

PSP 10 on my wife's XP installation.
Materials palette used to show but has disappeared. Toggling the checkbox
next to Materials under the Palette menu (or hitting F6) does nothing.

Perhaps it was dragged off the screen. Try loading a known good
workspace, the default one if you never saved your own. Try File >
Preferences > Reset Preferences > "Make all toolbars/palettes
visible and on screen."
