Retouch Tool

Retouch Tool
Sat, 3 Feb 2007 15:48:55 -0500
My wife is trying to retouch a graphic while using PSP anniversary edition
7.04 on a Windows XP SP2 system. She has 512 meg of ram and hard drive is
around 3 gig available.

When she uses the retouch tool, shes gets a WIndows message that states:
"This application has caused an error and needs to shut down, clicking Ok
the only option available closes PSP and she loses he changes to the
graphic.

Since this works fine for most of us, we need to find out what is
different in your system or how she uses it. Can you offer more
details than "it crashes"? Let's start with these:

Does it happen on every image when using this tool or just some
images? What is different about the problem ones? Size, number and
type of layers, color depth?

Has it always happened or has it just begun? What changed at the
time it began? Hardware added or reconfigured? Programs installed or
updated? Windows Update?

Does the crash occur for just one of the Retouch tool's 19 modes
(Lighten RGB, Soften, etc.) or for several? Which modes?

Does the crash occur with any particular custom or special shape
selected in the Tool Options palette, or for several of them? Which
ones?

What have you tried to narrow down the cause and what did you find?

What have you tried to correct the problem? Did your trials make any
change?

>From what little I know of the situation, it just started or maybe I should
say, just started again. I seem to think that it happened once before, but
seemed to go away.

I know it happened with 2 graphics, one that she downloaded from the net and
one I think she created. I don't know the details of those graphics.

No updates has occured today as it just started today, I did update the Net
framework to 2.0 about 2 weeks ago think it would correct a problem with an
app we use that requires netframework.

It happens with at least 2 of the toosl, not sure if she uss any of the
others, I know it happens with the smudge tool, she just told me that as
soon as she selects the retouch tool the error occurs so she canot access
the ool options to see if any other is affected. The smudge is the currently
selected tool.

1. Uninstall the application.
2. To remove any residual Windows Registry settings run ZapPS,
   which you can get here:
   ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/PaintShopPro/X/zapps.exe
3. Reinstall PSP.
4. Make sure you have PSP 7 patched to the highest minor version
number (7.04) by looking in Help > About. If needed you can find
the PSP 7 patches at this Corel link: http://tinyurl.com/yb5s43
