Problem Printing w PSP 7

Problem Printing w PSP 7
Sun, 8 Apr 2007 11:14:53 -0400
My wife has something strange happening when she goes to print any image in
PSP 7.

This is obvious printing to any color printer or even to a file. So it isn't
printer dependent. Every image is printed ok, but with a pinkish background
throught the page.

The be more specific, if the image is 500 x 500 pixels, that prints ok, but
the rest of the page fills with pink.

What is happening? I don't see any settings in hte print dialogues tht can
cause it. I said it happens on multiple printers, our konica minolta
magicolor 2300DL, a lexmark p2350 and we even tried printing to a PDF file
directly. All will have the rest of hte page with the pink.

Any help is appreciated

I am not sure what you mean by "the rest of the page." Is it the
border surrounding the 500 x 500 pixel image? If I guessed right, a
new image containing nothing but white would print a white rectangle
surrounded by pink.

The usual culprits: File > Preferences > Color Management: make sure
it is not enabled. And File > Preferences > Monitor Gamma: set all
three channels to 1.00.

If those are not the cause, then I'd suspect Windows color
management. Try saving an image from PSP in a JPG file and printing
it with another app like Paint. How does that look?

Thanks for the info Fred. We checked the preferences and they were set the
way you stated.

To try and explain what I mean, let ssay the image she is printing measures
3 x2 in, the rest of the 8 1/2 x 11 in page will be pink but the image will
look ok other than the extra pink.

We tried printing an image in MS paint and it printed ok with no extra pink
so from what you said, I think we can assume it is not a Windows color
management problem. Let me know if I am wrong.

Do you hve any other ideas?

Yup. You have narrowed it down nicely. Check File > Page Setup. In
the resulting dialog, look in the Options block for a Background
button. That could be where the pink comes from. Make sure it is set
to pure white R,G,B = 255,255,255.

Second, in the Print dialog, click Properties and look around your
printer driver settings for a background color, a watermark, an
overlay, etc. that PSP honors but perhaps Paint does not.

Thanks Fred, that fixed it, never would have thought of checking the page
setup for a background color. I have no idea why any software manufacturer
would even do that. It just seems to go against my thinking.
