| PSP 7 used with *Open With* from _WinXP FAX & Image Viewer_ |
 |
Mon, 06 Aug 2007 09:39:07 -070 |
I'm having a bit of trouble using WinXP's _FAX and Image Viewer_ in trying
to use the *Open With* function and directing the image to PSP7. If I use
*Send To* everything is OK, but when I use Open With the image evidently is
sent to PSP's _multiple image utility_. I messaged the Google WinXP
newsgroup and they said to try this newsgroup.
Does anyone here have any ideas what's wrong? I'm not sure what else I
should give here to help trouble shoot this problem.
Thanks...
Don

Where is this "Open With" menu item? Is it inside the Fax and
Image Viewer? Or is it in Windows Explorer? In other words, are
you having trouble starting the Fax and Image Viewer by double
clicking on a file name? Or are you having trouble starting the
PSP image editor from within the Fax and Image Viewer?

There is no such thing as a "multiple image utility" in PSP 7.
What really happens? Just describe it exactly without trying
to come up with any interpretation of your own. Are you perhaps
talking about the PSP Browser?

How about describing exactly what happens and what you see on
the screen along with the text of any messages that appear?

It is to be found after right clicking within the Image Viewer. There are
a dozen choices on my system, including Send To and Open With.

The what do you call the utility within PSP7 where you can move several
images to one screen and position them for later printing?

I did describe exactly what happened, but I'll try again:
I right click on an image in WinXP's _FAX and Image Viewer_ and a menu
appears, I select Send To and then PSP7 and the image will appear in PSP7;
if I select Open With the PSP7 multiple image utility opens and tells me,
"This is not a valid layout file."
HTH resolve your questions.

You call it what PSP7 calls it - i.e., the Multiple Image Printing
window, which is what should be visible to you in the blue title bar.
This is normally accessed withing PSP7 from the File menu item called
Print Multple Images.

You mean it opens the Multiple Image Printing window, which does not
recognize the file as a layout file.
Do you wish to send the image to PSP7 so that it opens in a regular PSP7
workspace, or do you wish it to open in the Multiple Image Printing
window so that you can do a print layout? If the latter, are concerned
because this window doesn't recognize the image file as a proper layout
file?
If the latter, I can only guess but suspect that the Multiple Image
Printing window has to be opened from within PSP7 to work properly,
using images within the PSP workspace. That means that you have to have
the image(s) open in the PSP7 workspace to start with.

Hi Don,
I just tried it here and it worked OK. You did not say what type of
file you opened, or perhaps we are invoking PSP 7 in different ways.
Here's what I did:
Open a JPG file in Win P&FV.
Right click the image in Win P&FV, select Open With.
In the Open With Dialog, select Browse and navigate to
C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 7\PSP.EXE.
The file opens in the PSP 7 workspace just as though I had opened it
with the PSP 7 File > Open menu.
