Hi,
When I open a file in PSP 7 and try to add text, suddenly now it immediately
shuts down the whole program. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the
program. I have even created a "new image" and attempted to add text
and
the same thing happens. Does anybody have any ideas why this is
happening....any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Lisbet

The most likely explanation is that you recently downloaded or
acquired a font that is badly formed. Each time PSP tries to
use the Text tool it encounters the font and crashes because of
an error in the font definition. Unfortunately, it is not easy
to identify which font is causing the problem if there is not
an obvious candidate that you recently installed. One way to
find the font is to temporarily copy half of the fonts in your
Windows Fonts folder into another folder. If the problem persists
after this then the bad font is still in your Fonts folder. If
the problem is gone then the bad font is among those you moved.
Halve again whichever group of fonts contains the bad actor and
repeat the test. Keep doing this until you can finally divide
and conquer enough to identify the font that is the bad actor.

This is almost always due to a corrupt font. Have you added any
fonts recently or installed any program that might have added some?
PSP is very fragile when it interprets the drawing instructions in a
font file, crashing when it should advise us of the bad font,
substitute another, and continue.
You do not have to actually use the bad font, as PSP loads them all
for its drop-down font list. If you cannot identify and remove the
recent addition, the best approach is to move half the fonts out of
Windows\Fonts to a safe place, see whether the trouble goes away,
cut the bad half in half again, re-test and so on to pinpoint the
bad one.
