The Painter Essentials 2 OEM application bundled with my WACOM Graphire 4
software is not functioning with my computer. I have made screenshots of the
workspace which best illustrate the problem and would be happy to send them
to someone willing to take a look. In the meantime, here is an email I sent
to WACOM about the problem minus the jpegs:
*********
"Look at the colour wheel. As you can see it is not normal. I get this
every
time I open the application.
When I attempt to create a drawing surface, this is the only colour I can
get (turquoise). When I click on the primary and secondary colour blocks to
bring up the colour palette, I am lucky if it appears between the 5th to 10
click.
Above is how an image looks when I open a file. This is a jpeg pic of a
fashion model on a runway (just so you know). I have uninstalled and
installed the application 4 times and nothing changes. I have updated the
WACOM driver to the latest version and there is no affect (not sure if it
would anyways). When I try to start the application from the Start Menu, it
may or may not open and I have to try to open it from "all programmes"
which
may or may not work.
Here is my computer configuration:
Windows XP Home SP2
Dell Dimension 2350
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz
1.79 GHZ, 768 MB of RAM
Antivirus: avast 4.7 Home Edition
Firewall: Windows XP built in version

I will forward the jpeg screenshot images to anyone who would like to see
this mess. Please contact me at (skookumnarrows at yahoo.ca)
Thanks

Set your screen to 24-bit color, in the Displays Control Panel.

Thank you, Corel Imaging Dev, for responding so quickly to my post. I have
set my screen to the 32-bit setting since there is no 24 and all appears now
as it should. However, I am having problems with getting the application to
open on first try. Out of my initial frustration, I followed instructions
from a Corel Knowledgebase article because the application did seem to be
trying to access the floppy drive when I opened up "Preferences." The
Article recommended I do the follwoing:
"This problem is usually not caused by the application, but rather the
recent items listing in Windows® Explorer®, the Run history in Windows or a
virus scanner.
To clear your run history, follow the instructions below:
1.. Go to start and up to Run. Type in regedit in the Open: box. Click Ok.
2.. Click on the + next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
3.. Click on the + next to Software
4.. Click on the + next to Microsoft
5.. Click on the + next to Windows
6.. Click on the + next to CurrentVersion
7.. Click on the + next to Explorer
8.. Right click on the folder RunMRU and left click on Rename. Add a 1 to
the end of the name so it reads RunMRU1. Click outside of the box to
finalize the change.
9.. Right click on the folder RecentDocs and left click on Rename. Add a 1
to the end of the name so it reads RecentDocs. Click outside of the box to
finalize the change.
Collapse all the folders in the registry by clicking on the minus sybol next
to each folder. Once you have done this close the registry editor."
Could this be affecting the way the application opens? I went back to the
Registry to see if I could reverse these changes and I see that new
"RunMRU"
and "RecentDocs" folders have been created beside the ones I renamed.
How do
I reverse what I did and do I need to? Your adivice would be appreciated on
this, too.
regards,
Anita H.

Right. We should have written "24-bit, or higher" :-)

Yes, the programme is opening. It will begin to display the workspace and
colour wheel and then it just "collapses" and disappears (shuts down).
I
have tried opening PE2 from the Start Menu, from All Programs and by using
the desktop shortcut and the same things happens with all three. However, I
did a right click on the desktop icon at one point and clicked 'open' and
the application stayed running but as soon as I closed it, I could not open
it again.
Today, I did a defrag and the programme opened on first try and stayed open
but after closing it and trying to reopen the process above repeated itself.
I have no idea what to do next. Any suggestions?
