| Eyedropper Thru Layers? |

I could swear that the eyedropper worked through multiple layers. Can
anyone confirm?
I have been using Painter forever and I don't ever seem to remember
having this problem.
I'm painting using multiple layers, and I want to eyedropper a color
from somewhere in the canvas and the only thing the eyedropper will give
me is any colors on the topmost layer, or pure white. Am I doing
something wrong? Do I have something switched or the layers set to some
weird effect that is disabling the eyedropper? It's impossible to work
this way.
Thanks!

Hi guys,
I'm not having that problem in either Painter IX.5 or Painter X. Maybe
it's just my lucky day, but I don't remember experiencing it in the
past, either.

This behaviour seems to be caused by having accidently painted with a
watercolor brush (or equivalent method-brush) on a transparent layer. I
have more then once discovered that doing so causes painter to handle
the layer as fully opak, preventing the eyedropper-tool from getting
through.
Whenever this happens, i restart painter, sometimes the error is gone.
It might also help to change the layers properties to gel or multiply
and switching back to normal. On some weird occations, checking and
unchecking the boxes for "Preserve transparency"/"Pick up
underlying
color" and/or using a different tool has helped.
The "bug" is still present in Painter X and can easily be reproduced:
-Create new document
-Fill entire Canvas with, let's say, green
-Create new Layer
-Paint with a watercolor brush on the new transparent layer, leaving the
layer method on default
-As you can see, the Brush produces strange white strokes, because it is
not able to interact with underlying pixels because layer is empty.
-Now, while still on the layer above the canvas, try to use the
eyedroppertool on a spot, whre the green of the canvas is visible
-Eyedropper is no longer capable of breaching through the layer.

Thanks Big_O,
Your comments give me some perspective and I will have to try some of
the things you suggest.
You never know what can cause these little glitches.
