I want to do some horizontl strokes with the pallette knife - The only way I
can get it to go horizontal, is to turn the canvas - I'd prefer to do the
painting in the normal view - are there any better suggestions out there for
using the pallete knife in the horizontal ???

yes, there are:
go to the angle menu, and set expression to bearing.
Provided that you use a Wacom Intuos, 2 or 3, the way you handle the stilus
will ´"rotate" the pallette knife.
