Painter stopped working

Painter stopped working
Sat, 23 Feb 2008 07:17:07 +100
I had PainterX.5 working okay on my Vista PC and it stopped. Just would not
boot up and said I had a problem. I reloaded Painter X and Painter X.1 okay
and then tried to load the X.5 update but get the error message "Error
1720.
There is an error with this Windows installer package. A script required for
this install could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package
vendor."

I downloaded a fesh copy of the X.5 update but get the same result.

Any suggestions,

Chris

Try this:
STEP 1: Download and install the Microsoft Windows Clean Up utility.
This will remove all registry keys associated with the Corel Painter X
install process.

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;290301

STEP 2: Run the Windows Clean Up utility

Click Start | Programs | Windows Install Clean Up.
Highlight Corel Painter X from the list of products.
Click Remove.

STEP 3: Manually delete Corel Painter X program folders from the hard drive.

Click Start | Run | type Explorer and click OK.
Browse to X:\Program Files\Corel\Corel (X represents the drive where
Corel Painter X had been installed).
Highlight and delete the Corel Painter X folder.

STEP 4: Manually delete the Corel User data directories.

Click Start | Run | type Explorer and click OK.
Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR PROFILE NAME>\Application
Data\Corel*.
Highlight and delete the Painter X folder.
* NOTE: The Application Data folder is a hidden folder and may not
appear. To view hidden files and folders, do the following:

Open the Control Panel.
Double-click Folder Options.
On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files
and folders.
STEP 5: Remove Corel Painter X registry keys from the Windows Registry.

WARNING: Editing the Windows Registry is NOT recommended for those
unfamiliar with registry editing. Be sure to backup the registry prior
to making any changes.

Click Start | Run | type Regedit.
Delete the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COREL\Painter\10.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COREL\Setup\Painter 10

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\CorelReg\PF10

STEP 6: Please make sure you restart your System, so that the changes
will take affect

Now you should be able to re-install Painter at this point.
