? your ISP would have nothing to do with accessing these newsgroups. You
*are* going to cnews.corel.com via a newsreader (not a web browser), right?
Corel maintains its own news server, so what your ISP may or may not carry
is irrelevant, Will.
As for the GIF, did you try File|Save As or File|Export (also ctrl-e) and
just select the GIF format? It'll convert it to the correct color palette on
its own.

I still running Corel 8 and want to convert a 24 bit color image to 8 bit
color so we can save it as a Gif file...
But the only option I see is to convert it to 8 bit grey scale.
Any help appriceated.
thanks.
PS are these newsgroups available via Google Groups? Our isp is starting to
not support all newsgroups. Thanks

Hunter,
Thanks for your response, Hunter.
You are correct about the Corel Newsgroups being independantly available
from Corel. Our ISP doesn't seem to want to provide access to the standard
newsgroups... so we can't use Outlook Express Newsreader... and must use
Google... but I overlooked that Corel had its own news server. Thanks for
reminding me, Hunter.
File | Save As only works if the image is a graphic already. In our case it
was a file we copied and pasted from Corel Draw 8.
It won't let us File | Export it as a Gif either... unless we start out as a
graphic/bitmap.
We can save as a Gif if we export the Corel Draw as a jpg, load that into
Corel Photo Paint... and then Save As a Gif...
Or we can copy from Corel Draw to Corel Photo Paint if we create the Photo
Paint blank screen as 8 bit paletted... then we can Export as a Gif.
What we really wanted to do (to save steps on a regular weekly project) is
to copy from Corel Draw and paste into Corel Photo Paint... and then save or
export the thing as a Gif file...
Looks like the only way tod do that is via the 8 bit paletted blank we
create at startup.
thanks for the help, Hunter.

How is that not a "graphic"?

? um, as soon as you paste it into PP, it's rendered as a bitmap so I'm not
following what you're doing.

You can always export out of Draw as a GIF, too. It will scale down the
colors.

your workflow seems rather convoluted (not trying to be rude, just being
honest). I've worked with Draw since v7 and never had to jump through the
hoops you're talking about to make a GIF file.
Why don't you post your exact workflow, and versions of the app you're
using. Something is wrong somewhere and no one's going to be able to figure
that out without your exact steps.

If I recall correctly the option is called convert to palleted.
Don't have v8 anymore to check, but that's what it's called in later
versions.
