No Typographical Quote mark conversion with VP10 in Vista?

No Typographical Quote mark conversion with VP10 in Vista?
Sat, 1 Mar 2008 16:17:51 -0800
Have been using VP10 in Vista for a few months with no major problems. Have
a couple of glitches, though. I cannot get VP to convert "" marks to
typographical quotes "". I have the correct box checked in Tools |
Options |
Workspace | General, but they still will not convert. Have to do each one
manually (alt + 147 on number key pad, etc.). I hate inch marks when quote
marks are appropriate. :-) Anyone else run into this? Any fixes?

Wow, that's a problem. I'm with you 100% about using real quotation
marks rather than the ditto mark. Same thing for the em and en hyphens.

I haven't run into this problem with Ventura 10, but to make your manual
fix a little easier (if you haven't already done this), do a search and
replace for " -- and replace the first one in each pair. Than do another
search and replace for " and just replace them all. I ope that works
until somebody figures out why your Ventura refuses to work the way it's
supposed to work.

Mike,

I'd thought it could be that you're trying to import files that
originated in Word 2003, and which use Unicode quotes, but in fact I
just did a test and V10 recognized those, interestingly enough, and
converted them correctly.

What's the origin of these files? You could consider converting the
quotes (etc.) to Venture markup in Word prior to import. That's what I
always do.

Hi Mike,

I am using V10 and Vista and have been doing so for quite a while. I
have experienced the same problem - and was working around it hoping I
would work out what I had done wrong.

So, I think we can conclude Vista and V10 do not allow auto
typographical quotes. That's a pain!

I do the Ctrl Shift " and Alt shift " for left and right quotes
respecively - and have to do them manually every time.

Sigh.

Hi Russell,

There is another check box found under Tools|QuickCorrect labelled "Change

straight quotes to typographic quotes". Now, typographic quotes appear when

typing directly in to Ventura, and when importing text. I am running V10
under Vista. I hope that works for you too.

With kindest regards,

David (still new to Ventura and very, very appreciative of this group)
