I haven't used the version of BFN that came with Ventura in quite some time. 
The newest versions of BFN supplied with CorelDRAW X3 and X4 do recognize OT 
fonts just fine. I don't think the version supplied with Ventura did 
recognize them correctly.

Does Bitstream Font Navigator recognise Opentype fonts? If so, how do 
they appear? as truetype or t1?

Is there a problem with long file names?

I have tried to install some OTF but they did not appear immediately, 
one did, but I am not sure why. Grateful for your advice.

I believe that is correct. BFN v4 (which came with V10) does not recognize OT
fonts correctly. BFN v5 and after will.

Yes, but I'm still on Draw 9, so I will have to spend some money soon.
