| OT -- font question TNR vs. NTR |
 |
Mon, 31 Mar 2008 20:33:56 -080 |
Hello. Can anyone solve this silly puzzle my writers' group is stuck on:
What's the difference between Times New Roman (as on my PC) compared to New
Times Roman (on my friend's Mac)? I notice that some writers' guidelines
request New Times Roman on submissions. thanks much.

Thanks so much!
I couldn't find any comparisons, either. Sorry to say my writers' group
chooses to use it in the forthcoming anthology.... (not my choice, and I'm
not doing the page layout).
Appreciate your response.

Thanks, Neil.
I think they just want the print submissions all the same for ease of
reading among the volunteer "editors." The page-layout lady used
MSPublisher for the last book. I dare not mention their collective belief in
MSWord! I believe I'm the only member without it.

I would be really surprised if "writers" could tell the difference
between
these versions of Times, as they are subtle and IMO only serve to avoid
copyright infringements. It is somewhat puzzling that the group would care
what font was used for authoring the content, as it is easily (and
typically) changed during layout anyway.
Best,
Neil

If you ask me, both are tragically overused and to be avoided at all
costs... I never let anything go through my hands in either TNR or
Helvetica... :-))
But seriously, I don't think there is any significant difference,
probably just another naming issue, as it always has been the case
with fonts. There are no references to any differences on the Net,
either...
