zero inter-paragraph space results in more than zero space

zero inter-paragraph space results in more than zero space

Now why would this be?

In the Body Text paragraph tag properties, Space, I've chosen 0.0 for
the inter-paragraph space, and yet there's something like a blank line
between paragraphs. Talk about intuitive! :D

This is the *first* thing I attempted to do with V8. :)

I assume it's totally unrelated to the fact that if I click the General
tab, it disappears and the Font tab comes to the front. :P

Ventura selects the highest amount of space specified above or below a
paragraph where two settings conflict. So if you have two paragraphs, and
you specify 12 pts below the first and 6 pts above the second, you'll get 12
extra pts between them.

Do either of the paragraphs in question specify space above or space below?

Extra space can also be caused by vertical justification (in the Typography
tab). You can turn off VJ in Chapter Properties (again, under Typography) to
eliminate this possibility.

It might also be the lead value of the second paragraph. If your second
paragraph specifies 24 pts Interline, then you will get 24 pts from the base
of the last line of the first paragraph to the base of the first line of the
second paragraph (plus whatever space above/below/interparagraph you've
specified).

Interparagraph space is special, though. Since you've set it to 0, it's not
affecting anything, but if you *do* want to use interparagraph space, it
only works between two paragraphs set for an identical interparagraph space.

Can't help you with this one. Do you get this behavior after restarting?

Bingo. I dunno how I miss that. I was even looking for it. I tell ya,
Ken, sometimes I scare myself! :/

I am pleased to say, I do not.

Thanks so much for setting me straight.
