'Pre-tagging' text in external editors

'Pre-tagging' text in external editors
Thu, 08 Feb 2007 22:43:46 -050
It used to be that we'd create the text in our choice of editors and use
things like <I> and <I*> to turn on/off italics and so forth.

In the V8 manual I found a passage that said that angle brackets in text
files are taken to be formatting with NO other information on creating
text outside the program. <yeesh!>

So... after spending an evening italicizing words in text files, I come
to find that <I> turns into something else once imported. Specifically,
I have <^!U!IX!O!A!>, which actually _does_ turn on italics -- to the
end of the paragraph!

When I delete that item, it pops up again at the place where I put the
<I*>. Once I delete that one. I can actually italicize within the
program.

HOWEVER, after spending a shift italicizing in the editor, I'm loathe to
undo and redo that work again inside V8.

My question: Is there a way to safely turn italics on/off (or do other
pre-tagging) when using an external editor to prepare text?

I thank you all for replies.

Worked perfectly! I deleted all the text in V8, deleted the files from
the Navigator, and inserted the line above in all the text files.

Thanks SO very much! You've saved me ACRES of work! This _is_ a good day! ;)

This is one of the features I've always liked -- no, loved -- about Ventura.
The files are plain text, so you can fiddle with them as you like.

In one case I had to create an oddball fraction. It was nice to be able to
directly edit the text and adjust the vertical position of the numbers.

Try this:

Start every file with

@Z_STYLE70 =
and then write:

This is an <I>italic<I*> text

"@Z_STYLE70 = " tells Corel Ventura, that this is text for a Corel
Ventura
version >= version 7

have a good day

Yup. AND when they were in 6 files, the *other* files were plain text
too. So if you understood what was in them, you could wreak serious
transmogrification without even opening VP. Twas awesome.

Hope the modern age is seriously capable too... ;)
