<<So do it again & send us through attachment converted to curve
mode.">>
The above is what scares me. If they want it converted to curves it sounds
like they're taking the PDF into another program rather than working with
the PDF as a PDF.

Someone said no question is elementary. It is better to ask and get a
reply/answer about what has become a problem.

I would do this, if you have some text somewhere that comes out otherwise.

This is what I would do as well.
I would have Distiller leave the colours alone.
The separations mode should keep you on the straight and narrow.
You seem to have done the steps to find the rogue colours, and you
rectified them. All should be well. Perhaps their rip is set somehow
oddly. You may want to try looking at the document information in the
pdf file to ensure that there it is all b+w.

Dear List
Please excuse the perhaps elementary question.
For years I have been giving PDFs for simple books I translate to my
publisher for printing locally with no problem from his printer. I
always used the Standard print option in Distiller. Text was always
black with one or two grayscale photos
There is now the case of a PDF for a book I delivered to another
publisher, who took the CD to India to print it there. Unfortunately,
it turned out that some RGB was there and they emailed me
=====================quote=====================================
"We are sorry to say there is a problem in PDF files. It has RGB
colour where it should be solid black single colour.
So kindly send it again. This can be done at the time of converting
into PDF files in BLACK & WHITE
So do it again & send us through attachment converted to curve mode."
=====================unquote====================================
After consulting with a friend, I duly checked the separations in
preview and found two RGB items (just two names -- dunno how they
happened) which I rectified; ensured that the separations tab in
review showed only black as checked and then created a new PDF after
altering the Distiller color tab to "leave color unchanged". (It goes
without saying that I had previously checked colour of text in all
tags as CMYK K100.)
The Indians say they still have a problem, and are out of touch today
due to some local festival.
Now, my questions are-- to ensure Blac&White :
-----------------------------------------------
VENTURA 8 -- 1. In the Ventura print dialogue Miscellaneous tab, one
can select Text to print black. -- Should this be used anyway when one
always has no coloured text? (My printer is a Lexmark E330 PS3)
VENTURA 8 -- 2. What about the photos? I see in the same tab that
colours can be printed as color, black or grayscale. -- Default is
Color; should this be changed to black or grayscale to affect the
grayscale photos?
DISTILLER 7 -- 1. Under colors tab there is a setting "Convert to
CMYK". -- Should this be used or the one "Leave color unchanged"?
(The
third setting is "convert to RGB").
DISTILLER 7 -- 2. The Indians told me they print on Lino 1200dpi. --
Should I then alter the dpi in the Standard Distiller from 600 to
1200? Or is this not really relevant for the nature of this simple
print job.
Finally, please note that the page-size is A5 printed in numerical
sequence. Have no idea how they process these things to nake
impositions. My OS is W2k.
Thanks in advance
John

If you have images, greyscale.

Thanks Stillman
Only one point not clear, should the colour be set to black or to
grayscale? What is affected by either of these settings I wonder?
You probably mean grayscale--the last choice I mention; please confirm.
