Slow printing to file after installing Lexmark E350D

Slow printing to file after installing Lexmark E350D
Wed, 18 Apr 2007 19:30:57 +030
Hi

OS W2K Ventura 8.559
--------------------
After having installed a new PS3 printer, Lexmark E350D, printing to file for
creation of .prn has slowed to an impossible crawl.

OS XP Ventura 10
----------------
Same file prints fast enough, perhaps faster than it used to on VP8 to the old
Lexmark E330 PS3 printer (now defunct. Export to PDF from VP10 prints real fast
too.

The OSs are on same machine with triple boot W98SE/W2K/XP

***************************************************************************

Any suggestions. I already re-installed Ventura 8. Behaviour may not be
file-related as problem occurs same in several files used.

Thanks in advance

Regards
John

Did you install some drivers coming with the printer or only the stock
PostScript driver bundled with 2k/XP using the PPD of the printer?
This second would be the good solution. If you only have a PPD, use
the AdobePS universal installer. If you have both a PPD and an INF
file on the CD (or downloaded from Lexmark), you can use the Add
Printer wizard itself.

Thanks, Gabor

I installed the printer via the CD itself.

I did not install the stock PS driver from W2K. Will try it and see.

The Test Page from the present installation of W2K lists:

Driuver Name: PSCRIPT5.DLL
Data File: LMABK54O.PPD
Config File: PS5UI.DLL
Driver Vsrsion : 5.02
Default Data Type: RAW

I have also meanwhile downloaded and not yet tried to install

1. a PPD from Lexmark (hopefully a fresher one than the one I have)
2. the latest AdobePS universal installer

I'll have to look up documentation on the Net on how to try these.

John

You start the AdobePS and when it asks you about the PPD file, you
give it to it. That's all. It will not replace the XP driver, they're
the same, it will just make a few registry entries saying that there
is yet another PS printer in the system, using this particular PPD.

With PS printers, it's usually best to forget whatever drivers they
offer for it (especially with HP ones, Lexmark has a much better
reputation in this respect) and use the stock driver with the PPD.
That one was written by Adobe and it works all right.

Reinstalled (in W2K) the driver for E330 PS3 and VP8 duly printed to file at its

usual speed!

Reinstalled the E350D PS3 driver -- same crawl problem.

Looks like I shall have to print to file via the E330 PS3 and not use the E350D

PS3 in W2K -- whereas it works perfectly in XP!
