| ArcSDE / Area field disappears after join |

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me why the area field ["SHAPE..ST_Area()"] in a
feature dataset disappears from the attribute table when the FC is joined to
another table/DB-view?
This is most annoying as the area is an information which is always required.
We have DB2 UDB 8.2, ArcSDE 9.1 SP1, ArcGIS 9.1 SP1

It is best to direct this question directly to ESRI.
The field SHAPE..ST_Area() is defined by the ArcGIS application as a
derived value from the spatial column. I don't know why it disappears
when you join to another table.
