You may also want to make sure the SQL 2000 VSS writer is active on the SQL
2000 box. VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS

For SQL 2000 I don't think it's a service you'd see in the services applet.
For SQL 2005 it is. From a command prompt, if you enter VSSADMIN LIST
WRITERS, you would see something like this (at least from checking our two
SQL 2000 servers, which run SQL 2K Std and not MSDE):
Writer name: 'MSDEWriter'
Writer Id:
Writer Instance Id:
State: [1] Stable
Last error: No error
Do you see this, and is it stable?

I haven't personally encountered this issue yet, but...
Are you running 32 bit SQL on 64 bit Windows?:

You might also try re-registering the VSS binaries on the SQL server:

Not sure if anyone else has ideas...

Hi,
We are try DPM 2007 in order to check If is the system what we need to
protect our data servers. In this moment I can't include servers with SQL
Server 2000 installed on it.
This servers has installed DPM Agent correctly, but, when I create a new
Protection Group and expand the server, doesn't show de "All SQL
Server",
only appear the fisical hard disk, and state.
This situation I don't have when the server coexist an sql server 2000
instance and with another sql 2005 instance. In this case, from DPM I can
protect both database 2000 as 2005.
What I must do in order to solve this issue?
