How to setup D2D2T

How to setup D2D2T
Thu, 10 Apr 2008 12:30:01 -070
I have our servers backing up to our SAN at night. I would like to take
these backup copies and put them on tape using our autoloader during the day
when our DPM Server isn't doing anything. How do I go about setting this up?
I can't seem to find any option in the GUI, does it have to be done through
powershell somehow?

Dan,
You need to go to the managment page from DPM User Interface. Select the
"Libriaries" tab. then you will have to enable your tape library from
there.
after it is enabled, you will have the options of "Long term" tape
backups
in the Protection Group wizard.

I have already set that part up. So when I go and tell it that for a PG I
want short term to disk at 7pm and long term to tape at 12pm it is actually
going to take the data from the 7pm disk backup the night before and put that
on tape or is it going to access the server at 12pm that it is backing up
directly and take a backup of the server at 12 pm?

I would think you would have the option for both ways.

I am assuming then if you have the long term and short term in the same PG
then it does D2D2T then if you create a new PG and include only tape long
term and have a separate PG for disk backup that it would then access the
server directly for the tape backup. Is that correct?

So what would the command is Powershell be to do this "For backup from PS
you
can configure D2T PG Protection type"

So the default PG created when using the GUI is not D2T so if I was to use
that it would be taking the data from the server it is backing up when
running a tape backup and not from the data DPM already has on disk?

Do the long term PG and short term PG be separate or does the short term and
long term have to be specified in the same PG.

Basically since I have one PG per server right now so I can specify
different times for backups. I then want to create 1 PG that will copy all
the replicas already on disk to tape during the day so i can fit more than
one server per tape. Hope that makes sense.

So how exactly would I go about modifying a PG from D2T to D2D2Tusing the UI?
I can't see anywhere to modify that setting?
