Will just do the mark as free from now on. I let it run for 2. hours and
still was not done. Is that normal? Never actually done a long erase on a
LTO 3 tape before so not sure if something is wrong or if it should take that
long

Hi Dan,

Your case it would be feasible if you can just mark tape as free from
Library Management tab.
That will solve your problem for re-use of the tape. DPM will treat this
tape as not data on it and will write from the beginning.

Yes it will take long and you'll be surprised by the amount of time it takes
to erase a tape completely. And it is not in DPM control to reduce the time.
It's hardware related.

The answers i got it from forum
===============================
1st answer
DPM Erase operation is long erase operation and does not support short
erase.
If your intention is to re-use tape in DPM which are already written, please
use mark free operation from DPM.
2nd answer
1) Mount media to be erased into drive.
2) Open command prompt and type below command
3) >mytape1.exe \\.\tape0 {è where \\.\tape0 is logical path name of
drive in which media is mounted)
4) Then use erasetape -> s short erase option as shown belo in
snapshot.
5) Once it finishes use 'q' option to exit.
