| Share protection or Volume protection? |

Does anyone have a handle on the difference between volume and share
protection? I know that with volume protection, you can't split a volume
between multiple protection groups. I thought that with share protection you
could. I just got DPM 2007 up and running over the weekend and I'm finding
out that you cannot split either volumes or shares between two (or more)
protection groups--at least not that I can make happen. This is a bummer--I
wanted to assign different protection schedules for data on the same drive.
If this is the case, why would I even want to consider share protection over

Hi Rick,
You cannot split protection of a volume across PGs regardless of whether you
protect volumes/ folders/ shares.
Protecting a folder/share allows you to selectively protect data. You may
however achieve the same by protecting the whole volume and excluding
specific folders that you don't want to backup.
