Evaluating DPM 2007 - Questions

Evaluating DPM 2007 - Questions
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:52:34 -050
I'm in the process of evaluating DPM 2007 for use in our data center
and I want to make sure I'm understanding a few things properly.

1) When protecting a SQL 2005 server, if a particular database size
grows beyond the intial replication size set during the setup of the
protection group, I need to manually go in and adjust the disk
allocation for that database.

2) When protecting a SQL 2005 server, if I select the entire SQL server
(meaning all databases under that server will be selected) and then add
a new database the next day, that new dtabase will not be protected
unless I first modify the protection group to add the new database.

Are both of these statements true? or am I missing something?

Yes. Both of these statements are true. You will get DPM Alert for the first
scenario below. For the second scenario, you need to add the database for
protection manually.

Hi Scott,

1) Yes you need to.DPM Intelligently calculate the size require for the
protected Data Source, with taking account the retention range, Data Source
size and logchange etc.
But if you DB size grows then you need to increase the allocation of the
disk.

2) No, If you select the root node then all the nodes present and nodes
which will come later will also be included in the protection group.
