YouTube ambitions: Post every music video ever made

Wow--talk about setting a big goal! Newfactor Magazine posted this article,
quoting Steve Chen (one of YouTube's founders) as saying, "What we really
want to do is in six to 12 months, maybe 18 months, to have every music video
ever created up on YouTube."

The plan is to generate revenue through advertising not use fees, which
challenges the iTunes way of doing things.

I'm a big fan of YouTube and I'd like to see them eat at least a healthy part of
iTunes' lunch. :) But this seems to me like a huge undertaking--and maybe a
risky claim. Do you think it's possible/probable? Is everything headed toward an
advertising model eventually anyway?

Without contractual agreements with artists, publishers, and labels, I don't see
how they can get by the copyright issues.

That being said, this is exactly the sort of content I want to see on Zune, or
had wanted to see on URGE.

I also think a sort of service like that immediately justifies the cost of an
Origami device, without a doubt. The larger screens of the HumPiQ, aka UMPC,
would make viewing the videos a much better experience.

Furthermore, it decouples the user from the PC, unless YouTube has figured out a
way to do the same with their site, or planning on releasing a mobile device.
