Nokia to feature Windows Live Search on cellphones.

Nokia to feature Windows Live Search on cellphones.

What a coup!

The number of cellphones sold far outpaces computers and to get the jefe in
mobiles to drink the koolaid is a big win for the Windows Live team.

Now, how do we get cellphone users to actually use the damn things?

by making it so wireless carriers don't rip customers off so badly?

I think my carrier charges me 8c a KB or something ridiculous like that

Yeah who is going to pay 60 dollars for a cell phone data plan when they don't
even pay 60 dollars for their high speed internet at home.

Wireless browsing isn't bigger than what it is because people aren't interested,
it's because it's so damned expensive.

nice pic, Michael!

Agreed. The cost is prohibitive. I have a hard time justifying the cost of just
using my cell as a phone.

cost of just using my cell as a phone. With both of you guys there.

The lack of interoperability, aka locked phones, and hardware subsidies from
carriers have led to the current state of crappy offerings from MNOs. I mean, if
a phone is $120 out the door, why do I want to be locked into a 2-year contract
for a $50 rebate on the hardware w/o any rebates on the monthly price. I would
rather pay more for the hardware and get a better pay-as-you-go rate from my
choice of carriers anytime.

We had a data plan for me and most of our guys but I cancelled that since there
was no way for me to justify the ROI. None whatsoever.

That is why it amuses me to no end when I hear about the various numbers of new
services being developed for mobiles. Once the initial euphoria is gone, all
that is left is chaff. The more sophisticated the users become, the less likely
that they would continue to pay for such nonsensical stuff.

I would like to see what the uptake in ringtones is right now, for example.

The inevitable advent of smart-er phones also does not bode well for MNOs, as
you can definitely prep your content and take it with you on removable media.
The increasingly-larger sizes of flash media would assue that you could take two
or even three movies with you for playback on you mobile. Offline, but your
choice, at your bitrate, whenever you want.

terri:nice pic, Michael!....Whaddaya mean 'nice pic'?

Just because some Hive member goes to a photographer to have a pic taken does
not mean he even knows the girl.

That beautiful girl cannot be Mike's wife. No, she cannot be!
