| Google to buy YouTube? |

The Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend that Google is trying to
acquire YouTube for somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.6 billion. The source
the writer quotes is a bit vague ("The discussions between Google and
YouTube are still at a sensitive stage and could break off, says the person
familiar with the matter") but if it proves out, this would be a huge deal
for Google and give them the top spot in online video.
The same article reports that Yahoo expressed in interest in acquiring YouTube
as well...even though they are still in negotiations to acquire Facebook (a
social-networking site) for a reported $1 billion. Here's the link to the WSJ
article, but it may require a subscription:

The following chart shows how the various video competitors rank...and even
though Soapbox launched its (still closed) beta program only last month, the
article says Soapbox reportedly had a 7% audience share for September (not bad!
Wish they'd open the beta so more of us could get involved...)

share so quickly.

Looks like it's official. The AP reported this just about an hour ago:
Google buys YouTube for $1.65 billion
Search giant’s purchase of video sharing service biggest in its history
