Sort of acts as a replacement for the messenger functionality removed from
Vistas Media Center :).

Wasn't that third party?
Anyway, was hoping this update would include something to make hte 360 quieter,
but it didn't so yesterday I ripped mine apart and added some custom fans -
sucks to blow my warranty but I was also trying to find something inside the
case that rattled. Got all the way down to taking the motherboard out but the
rattle actually seemed to be coming from under one of the heatsyncs - which I
just couldn't get off, sucks :s
New fans are 7% quieter tho apparently, but it could also be the drive that is
making all the noise - no idea how you are expected to quietly watch a HD-DVD
movie.

That's a bit of a scientific measurement don't you think

DC Power: 12V (at 5v)- Original Fan: 12V (at 5v)
Current: 160mA - Original Fan: 250mA
Speed: 4100RPM - Original Fan: 4600RPM
Air flow: 46CFM - Original Fan: 29CFM
Loudness: 38d(B)a - Original Fan: 41d(B)a
More details if you want them, I think MS should concentrate on quitening this
bad boy down really, my next step will be to put some acoustic padding in there
around the DVD drive as apparently it does make a real difference.
