cannot reinstall encarta 2006
Sun, 01 Jul 2007 08:07:06 -070
G'day people,
Recently I used a regcleaner( rather too aggresively it seems) and
Microsoft Encarta 2006 stopped working. So I uninstalled it
When I tried to re-install Microsoft Encarta 2006 ( Windows XP SP2 )
I get these errors:

At first:
Internal Error 2908.

I click OK.
Internal Error 2908.

I click OK.
Internal Error 2908.

I click OK.
Internal Error 2908.

I click OK.

Then the installation continues untill I get this:

An error occured during the installation of assembly
'Microsoft.Encarta.Utility,publickeyToken="31bf3856ad3
64e35",version="15.0.3400.603",processorArchitecture
="x86",culture="neutral",fileVersion="15.0.3400.603&quo
t;.
Please refer to Help and Support for more information.
HRESULT: 0x8002802F.

Then the installation rolls back.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. stan

G'day Larry
Thanks for your reply.. This one doesn't have an undo or restore
(unfortunately)
However, I found elsewhere that it was a problem with the .Net
framework installation, so after trying in vain to re-install the .Net
framework , I just deleted the whole bloody lot, folder ,files and
all, all 35M of it, then used some reg fixers to tidy up the
registry , which by now had hundreds of invalid entries.... lo and
behold , the install of Encarta went without a hitch after that .
Sometimes one is lucky with the big stick approach <<G>>
                      see ya

Hi Stan,

Most Reg cleaners have an Undo feature where you can undo the changes
you made to your registry. Check yours.

Glad to hear you got it going!!!

Here is a very good registry cleaner that will save an undo file. Last
freeware version (was bought out and now charging for this program)
which works 100% for me.
