Well...I have the exact same irritating problem. Of course my solution was
to just give up and turn off the Task Bar auto-hide function. After all, it
is Microsoft's software and they know what we want and what is best so I
figured that even in XP Porfessional they want to get away from the Encarta
Search window sticking to the Task Bar. LOL
Come on Microsoft...what is the real solution to this PROBLEM?? Thank you.

It is rather disappointing that the original post was last September and
there is no solution yet. There must be worse problems to devote resources
too.

While it should be solved, I found my own solution.
It is quite simple, I used the (fixed) taskbar of Encarta 2007 for Encarta
2008.
It works, I no longer have this problem now. But still Microsoft must update
this bug.
Microsoft can use my solution, no programming needed. Just offer the 2007
taskbar as update for encarta 2008. (The 2007 file is actually newer, so I
guess they put the wrong version of the taskbar in Encarta 2008)
Microsoft, it should be updated it is easy to do and it would help a lot for
customers having the Encarta 2008 taskbar problem and not owning Encarta 2007
to fix it.
It would only cost minutes to make a nice update for this.
Kindest regards,
Uncle X
