Are they not compatible with each other?
In my project i encoded all the video with Sorenson, but exported a WAVE file
from my raw footage, pulling in the aduio and video seperately, and letting
Encore 2.0 transcode the WAVE file. I've done this time and time again to avoid
the offset audio you get with multiple clips in the same timeline.
The catch is, the two minute opening sequence is elementary, with audio and
video together, which i didn't think would be a problem. But my client is now
recieving complaints that the DVD will have sound on the open, but the rest of
the 2 1/2 hour program dosen't.
We cannot duplicate this phenomenon on any of our DVD players, and my client's
tech guy walked one of their customers through his DVD players set-up menu,
switched the audio from digital to anologue, and the audio worked for the whole
program.
So now, what do i tell the client, and how can this be resolved?
I'm at a loss, and throw myself at your feet.

Joshua.
Firstly, in CS3 the offset with multiple clips in the timeline no longer
happens. This bug is squashed.
Secondly. In all regions, MPEG audio is now an optional format. This means that
it should not be Audio stream #1.
Stream 1 should be LPCM or Dolby Digital.
Stream 2 can be MPEG, but bluntly put, why bother? DD is a mandated format -
which means every DVD player built MUST be able to decode it.
Mixing content is asking for disaster. ALl content in the same VTS should be the
same. This means if your intro has DD for the audio, all movies should also have
DD - or certain players will freak out, or if the audio is MPEG, probably not
even play it at all.

Yeah I didn't even realize i had done that until the complaints started coming
in.
Is there any advice i can give my client, as far as what they can tell their
customers?

Bad News.
If a player will not decode MPEG audio - which in NTSC has always been an
optional format (read 'Unsupported in most players') then you are essentially
stuffed.
