How to trim song for menu with fade in & out

I'm trying to add a song for the main menu page in encore cs3.

1) Can I shorten the song within encore?
2) How do I get it to fade out at the spot I want it to end.

The song seems to play to the end then chops into the middle of the song &
continues to play from there.

2 - You Can't.
3 - No.
And IMHO, this is the way it should be. Remember that Encore is an authoring
application & not an Audio Editor. All assets need to be prepared before
importing into Encore, just as they have to be in all DVD-Video Authoring
applications. There is not one app where you can do this.

Solutions:
Edit in your NLE where you can time the fades to the video (Premiere)
