| No audio playback within Encore from imported MPEG |

Hi all,
I'm authoring a DVD and have imported my MPEG video files (created using TMPGEnc
- CBR MPEG-1 Layer II Audio used) into the project.
This was working absolutely fine, then I re-encoded one of the files in TMPGEnc
and opened my Encore Project again (without deleting the original timeline /
video and reimporting) - and now audio does not play when previewing the
Timeline for that file.
The MPEG plays absolutely fine in Win Media Player.
The funny thing is, whenever I re-import the file and create a new timeline, the
preview always goes to the exact same spot in the timeline, around 15 minutes
in.
I'm wondering if something has gone screwy in my project and if there is any
cache I can / should delete?
That said, I created a BRAND NEW project and imported the mpeg. Again, no
audio.
Has anyone come across this or know of a possible solution? It's getting mighty
frustrating!! :)

PAL or NTSC?
MPEG audio is not widely supported at all in NTSC players, being a strictly
optional audio codec.
Best export options for TMPGEnc to Encore would be to use PCM Audio at 16/48
resolution, and set Encore to transcode to Dolby Digital for you.
This will lead to the second-highest audio quality you can use (The highest
being the 16/48 PCM, and the worst - by a long, long way, the MPEG).
In your current project, I think you have confused matters by overwriting an
asset.
Best to simply delete it completely, re-encode with TMPGEnc to give you PCM
Audio, and start over.
Alternatively if there are a lot of menus, delete the timelines Video &
Audio files. Delete the files from the project, and go into
"File/Preferences" (Or is it "Edit/Preferences") and in the
Audio/Video tab, delete the media cache file.
Then re-import your new assets & try again.

Hi Neil,
It's PAL. It's odd though, it worked fine before, I'm positive. I was told MPEG
II audio compresses much better, and with 3.5 hours of video on a double layer
disk, I was hoping to save space for higher video quality with the MPEG II
audio.
I'll play with what you've suggested and report back - thanks very much for
taking the time.

With PAL, you should be okay using MPEG audio.
It used to be a mandatory codec (support is required) but has been demoted to
optional status now.
