Inserting A Method to Select Which Audio Track To Play

Inserting A Method to Select Which Audio Track To Play
Wed, 27 Feb 2008 14:21:02 -080
I want to encode this Encore CS3 project with two audio tracks one that is PCM
based for widepsread compatibiliy and one that contains a DTS surround sound
track.

If I simply provide a menu butto to change from the DTS tract to PCM track can I
use the same video file for either selection.

In helping to determine player or sound system compatibility, I was think of
having a DTS file play as back ground music and a note that if sound was not
being heard to select the standard playback DVD menu butto which would selec the
PCM track.

Would that be all I need to do to insure compatibility?

You can indeed use the same video file for both audio options.
However, you cannot set any background to DTS.

Neil,

Thanks for the follow-up and clearing up why I was observing no DTS background.

Stream 1 is in fact the PCM audio track 1 and the DTS audio is set for track 2.
When I preview the project and select the appropriate button mapped to play the
DTS track, it plays the PCM instead. I was expecting no audio at preview since
DTS is not supported in preview.

Is this the proper way in which to check the correct mapping of the audio
tracks? Can you please assist.

Thanks for you input thus far!!

Could you please give me your input on the above?

Neil,

Out of curiosity, is there any way to have some form of system check for DTS, or
other Audio, that is not PCM/DD, like a Web page checking for browser
compatibility? I've not seen anything like this and *guess* no, but thought I'd
ask, especially as I am looking at adding DTS to my Audio CODECs. In my case,
I'd just have three Audio streams with PCM WAV #1, 5.1 AC3 #2 and DTS #3. Again
a guess, but would assume that if clients' DVD players lacked DTS support,
they'd just hear nothing, if they selected this from the Audio Menu. It would be
nice, however, for them to be re-routed to a "message" Menu saying,
"try another source," or something similar.
