Take a backup of prefs.js, a file in your profile: see
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox and
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Prefs.js_file
Normally, being in the profile, these preferences won't be hurt even if
you uninstall/reinstall Firefox, however. (Of course, they will be hurt
if the HD containing them crashes, so this backup is not totally useless.)
Best regards,
Tony.

In this ng, or thru various websites, I get useful tips that, by
changing settings in about:config list of variables, I tailor my ff to
work as per my convenience.
If I reinstall ff or something goes wrong (scandisk, etc.), all those
are gone and if at all I have taken place to keep a list of them, I need
to re-incorporate them manually.
is there any method of keep the full list of about:config settings'
backup, and also to take a backup of manually changed/ added settings in
that, so that those can automatically get merged in the about:config of
a newer installation on a click?
thanks.
