If you use the extension MediaPlayer Connectivity, you can interface

How to interface VLC with Firefox

I have downloaded VLC, on both Win and Linux machines. It works fine as 
a stand-alone (and also linked with IE on the windose machine), but I 
can't get it to interface with Firefox on either of the machines.
What is the procedure?

I did a normal install (some time ago) and when i look at about:plugins, 
I see
     File name: npvlc.dll
     Version 0.8.6f, copyright 1996-2007 The VideoLAN Team
     http://www.videolan.org/

I see that FF has some 31 separate "MIME Types" ready to go.

What exactly do you have in mind when you say "I
