| firfox and Layer 7 browser interceptions |

Over here in UK we have a bit of a (well justified) media storm going on
about a US company called Phorm.Inc, which is promoting a system of
targeted adverts to be run by ISP's through the interception of Layer 7
traffic, and a series of browser redirections and cookie forging
techniques. They have entered into agreements with three of our largest
ISP's and there has been a fair bit of surreptitious (and some have
said, illegal) interception of browser traffic during technical trials
over the last two years.
If people are interested in the links I can provide them - but my
question is - are the Firefox developers aware of this new development
and will they be looking at the ways in which Firefox can assist web
surfers in detecting this sort of activity on behalf of their ISP?
I am aware of the Dephormation.org add-on but that only goes part of the
way towards solving the problem.
Many thanks - happy to be redirected to another forum if that is more
appropriate.
For an initial link or two - Phorm itself (used to be in the adware and
persistent rootkit business as 121Media) and its system Webwise -
http://www.phorm.com/ (this site is very high on spin and low on
technical detail, and tends to quote the favourable sections of largely
UNfavourable audit reports)
An anti Phorm site - http://www.badphorm.co.uk/
