Bloomberg is reporting this morning that Microsoft will launch a new online
gaming service in May that will enable gamers to connect with each other while
playing their favorite Xbox games. The service will debut with the release of
the Windows Vista version of Halo 2.
Games for Windows Live will be available by membership: a gold membership will
cost $49.95 a year, but a basic membership will be available at no cost to
gamers. The plan is to create a way for Games for Windows Live members and Xbox
Live members to be able to play together (gold memberships only); this
capability won't be available until June, when Microsoft will release
Shadowrun.
