I am using Interbase V 6.01 and on Windows 2003 machine interbase
seems to be running very slow. Even if you work in IBconsole it is very slow
to respond. Windows is running fine, everything is fast except Intebase.
Any suggestions?

Don't use IB 6.01. It's pre-release and has bugs which can corrupt
your DBs. If using IB Open Edition, get 6.0.1.6 or later from
http://mers.com
IB 6 predated XP and doesn't support it. There are a number of things
which can make IB 6 slow on contemporary hardware and software,
including:
o WinSock 1 apps seem to be slower on XP. WinSock 2, used by later
versions of IB, doesn't seem to be affected.
o IB 6 doesn't support SMP or hyper-threading. You can disable
hyper-threading in BIOS setup or use a third-party app to affine IB
server to one logical processor.
o IB 6 had some speed-related bugs which are fixed in later versions,
such as the second and all subsequent connections to the DB server
being too slow (about 1 second or so instead of instant)
