Trying to install a copy of the Development Edition of Interbase
2007 Developer Edition puts me in the dreaded infamous DLL hell.
Yes Linux also knows a DLL hell. Take a look at this screen:

This is a pita for me. Ironically the same edition, but the one
for Windows installed perfectly without DLL hell. 

How can I get free out of this DLL-hell or is Fedora 6 too fresh
for it?

In the F.A.Q. I've found compatible operating systems for Linux:
>Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 3 and 4, SuSE Linux 9 and 10

This seems that newer Linux do not get supported right now out of
the box. At least this means a lot of work to do, but some
distros might dispose compatible libraries altogether and then
the user of the newer Linux is cut off. C, C++ and other low-level
languages are debet of this compatibility nightmare. Java is a
language that's perfectly platform-neutral. I love Java above C or
