| IB 7.5 Install |

I had to install IB 7.5 on top of my 7.1 installation because the ZeroG Java
uninstaller doesn't work -- it just hangs as an active task using zero
memory. Thankfully, an IB Win installer has replaced that ZeroG junk.
But, I now have a PC that tries to start a second instance of the IB Server
Guardian (even though I've always had the server run as a task in Win XP
Pro, not as an app. How do I kill the second request for the instantiation?

If you look in the Services manager do you see two instances of IB
listed?
What is the message you get when the second instance tries to start?
Does it indicate a problem with a service that is trying to start?

Two instances of Guardian and Server -- one each labeled as "7.5" and
"IBG_gds_db" and one each just Guardian and Server. The message is
basically
noting that a second instance attempted to start and was disallowed with
just an OK button.
Interestingly, both Guardians are shown as running. The IBG_gds_db (7.5)
Server is running, but the IB Server for 7.1 (I presume) is shown as
stopped. This is also the only one of the four that has a manual start mode.
In the running tasks list, two guardians (ibguard.exe) are running along
with one server (ibserver.exe).
IB Manager applet will not display the SErver Properties or the Guardian
Properties.

This is just a guess but I suspect that two installations were made to
the same directory so that there is only one set of files on disk hence
the attempt to start two copies of the same version.
You can either uninstall everything or just unregister one set of
services. If you need a way to do that download the Windows Service
Control Component at http://www.dbginc.com/download.html and use the
demo app that comes with it.

The Service Control app works to solve 95% of the problem. The remaining 5%
is the IB Manager control panel applet. It is still using the 7.1
components, which is why the property buttons don't work and it shows IB as
Stopped even though it is Started. Using the IBMgr (v 7.5.1.6) that is in
the IB bin folder works correctly. Except startup mode must be left as
Manual (otherwise the 7.1 components kick it and cause the 2nd instance
error. Interestingly, leaving startup mode set to Manual has no effect with
having IB start automatically.
I can live with this. But, I'll note again just how much grief the ZeroG
Java installer has caused.
