Hi, i was wondering if someone would be able to help me, I bought my daughter
a second hand win 98 computer. we have connected it to the internet but
internet explorer does not seem to work. message always say cannot find
server. we connected to Dial up, and our Internet service provider was
helpful in going through many situations with it, but we are still unable to
use internet brouser. I have tried to look for some problems and, found
something about TCP/IP, I followed all instructions and still no service.

It may be a settings issue.
The first thing I do is check Tools-Internet Options-Connections
tab-LAN Settings and ensure "Use a proxy server...." is not checked.
(Mine resets occasionally, particularly after a power break or reset)
