Internet Explorer missing from Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs"
Sun, 13 Apr 2008 21:57:00 -070
For some unknown reason IE6 no longer appears in the list of programs in the
Add/Remove Programs selection of the Control Panel.

I wanted to click on "Repar" to see if that would correct the
performance
problems I've been having. Anyone know why it might not be there? Or how to

Hi,
Windows XP?

What problems are you having with Internet Explorer?

Many (perhaps most) performance problems with IE are caused by third-party
programs.

You can try either by downloading the Tweak UI from here:
Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

Or by opening a command run after repairing IE and type the following:
rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL IE.cpl click [OK] and Reboot your
machine, does it help?.

Or
rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL Inetcpl.cpl

Please make sure your machine is malware and virus free by scanning with an
up2date security software.
HTH.

Don, sorry for the omission. I put that info into the immediately prior
post. I'm running Windows 2000. The problems I have been having are
detailed in that post.

BTW, thank you for the gentle hint about gong "naked" I don't do that
as a
rule, but knew that the various Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware programs can
often be the source of the problem. By "stripping" the system down to
only
IE, I thought I could perhaps remove the problem, or at least simplify the
diagnosis.

nass, thank you for the suggestions. Since I'm running Windows 2000, do any
of your suggestions work there?

Regarding malware and virus status, I've scanned for sypyware with SpyBot,
then with AVG and finally with SuperAntiSpyware. Both the first two found
only cookies and som generic adware that they ranked as only medium threats.
SuperAntiSpyware's scan agreed with the immediately prior AVG scan that the
system was spyware free after the AVG cleanup. Both Norton AntiVirus2005 and
AVG AntiVirus 7.5 found no viruses
