I may download the live CD if it has a desktop, does it have KDE, Fluxbox,
or something like that?

Can I browse the internet?

If you're looking to spend some time, check it out. Last I checked
the apps were outside of what I was familiar with. I didn't care for
it, but I didn't put any time into it either.

IIRC it had a window manager, but I don't believe Gnome or KDE have
been (or will be) ported.

Plan 9 is not Linux, there is no KDE or Gnome...
it's really for super geeks and experimentors.

The Gui is an absolute minimum.

To view a webpage you can use webfsget
and the code will be displayed in the CLI window.

The only way to really get a web browser would be to install the Inferno
emulator and use Charon...
which thus far I have not been able to configure.

A few years back, someone wrote a minimal web broswer for Plan 9 called
Mothra (named after an other bad movie)

I downloaded the code, one line at a time..
but was unable to compile it so for now I've given up on it.

Basically, where I live it's been a long , snowy winter and I needed some
project to keep me busy <G>

actually..I was able to get a web browser after all

I used Abaco

It took me a while to find it but they had it pre-compiled...
I just downloaded it and used it today.

The only problem I had was that it initially would not load due to a font
being missing,
but I got that solved pretty fast.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to enable cookes.

BTW: I did finally get Inferno working...
only to find out that I was unable to get the "Charon" browser
working...
but I'll continue working with Abaco

BTW: at the time of this posting, Bell Labs' website is down !
