When I first started using Linux, I found that most of the books were
out-dated
by the time they were printed and available.

The best way to learn Linux is to simply install it and use it.
Refer to the man pages as needed and ask for help on Usenet.

In other words: If you have a question...just ask here.
Someone may know the answer

Hi, why don't you start reading on the fora's provided for that
particular reason. You can search in the forum for every term or word you
like. I see you're just like me from Holland. And there's also a Dutch
community, not as big as the international one.(www.pclinuxos.nl)

As answer to your question. I think the best you can do is to get a
couple of books from the library and then see what book works the best
for you. It's the same with all the questions about what Linux is the
best. You have to figure out yourself what works the best for you,
because there are many flavours and not everybody likes the same. I
learned a lot from 'Linux voor non-freaks' by Rickford Grant. Which came
with Fedora core 2 on 4 cd's. It's from 'Easy computing'(ISBN
90-456-3597-6). I think it's a good start to work trough such a book,
you'll learn a lot of common stuff by doing so.

Greetings,

I believe there is a more or less generic 'Linux Bible' comes with CD and
DVD including several distros. That might be a place to start. What,
exactly, are you interested in learing? There are online tutorials
dealing with the desktop, etc. - I believe one might be at iosn.net - you
