Dreamweaver...any good?
Mon, 14 Jan 2008 07:48:14 +000
Hi,

I have downloaded the ASP.NET Video tutorials and have seen how quickly and
easily we can develop asp.net web applications in a jiffy. My questions is that
just as when we drag-drop a textbox or any other control under the Visual Web
Developer 2008 interface, it adds all the code behind and takes care of all the
codes that are required for a textbox to operate.

But when we drag-drop a textbox under dreamweaver it does not add those tags eg.
runat="server or the asp:textbox pre-fixes under the textbox control.

So how does dreamweaver help in developing a asp.net application?

Please explain

Thanx

Doesn't really in my humble opinion. Even tried CS3 version. Started my web life
using Dreamweaver and use it sometimes for non-asp.net sites. But always use
VWD for asp.net.

DO you think VWD is that user friendly?

Like you can customize it as you like?

You can customize it, but it's not as easy. But just the Intellisense upgrades
they put into VWD 2008 are great time-savers. Dreamweaver doesn't do that.
Dreamweaver is great for non-asp.net. I found that as I learned more (and there
is still so much more for me to learn) and programmed more, I was hand-coding a
lot anyways, so the UI played less of a role.

MS made some great strides forward with 2008 and I abandoned 2005 pretty quickly
because of it.

All my humble opinion of course.

If you are looking for an application for designing with ASP.net then I would
recommend that you check out Expression Web. Works great with Visual Studio and
.net and the design tools are much better than Dreamweaver IMHO.
Microsoft has also changed the upgrade policy, so if you have any of the
following you can get it for $99.

Qualifying owners of :

Adobe/Macromedia Creative Suite (any version)
Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver (any version)
Adobe/Macromedia Flash or Director (any version)
Adobe GoLive (any version)
Microsoft Office (any version)
Microsoft FrontPage (any version)
